Youth Climbing Programs
Want to enroll your child in a sports activity that not only builds strength, but also teaches them life skills such as perseverance, maintaining focus, and problem solving? One that helps them build a life view that is based on a “never give up” attitude? The confidence that they build while scaling the vertical walls and reaching their goals is something that will last beyond a session of rock climbing while simultaneously immersing them in a community of fitness and outdoor lovers – and having a lot of fun in the process.
We would love to work with you to match your child’s temperament, physical abilities, and time availability with one of our year-round youth programs. We offer a wide range of activities, fit for the aspiring young climber just starting off to the seasoned competitive athlete. Here is a brief description of our programs:
The Mojo Recreational Club services kids ages 7-17 years old and there are no prerequisites for participation. We offer programs that are one or 2-day per week at both gym locations for the following age ranges: elementary school, middle school, and high school. The programs run in 9-week sessions and take a break during the summer vacation. They focus on cultivating a love of climbing and teaching children basic climbing language, skills, and techniques. To get into this program there is a pretty extensive waitlist but it is incentivized by the frequency with which a youth comes to the gym to climb: the more often they come, the higher up they move on the waitlist. The Mojo Academy Group services kids 6-13 years old and there are a few prerequisites to join. This is a two day per week program that travels back and forth between gyms and youth are split based on age: 6-9 year olds and 10-13 year olds. This is an 18-week program that focuses on continuing to foster a found love of climbing and pushing participants to pursue and reach their own climbing goals. To get into this program, a child needs to fill out a self-petition form and do a personal training evaluation with one of the Academy coaches to assess if they are ready to join. Those accepted into this program already understand climbing basics and are excited to purposefully work towards getting stronger and becoming better climbers. The Mojo Competition team is composed of youth athletes ages 9-18 who are committed to train for competitive rock climbing. To get into this program, athletes must try out every season and be offered an invitation to the team; in addition, a 4-8 months commitment is required. The competition team trains three day a week and practice alternates roughly bi-weekly between the two gyms. The team members are separated by both age and ability. Athletes have the opportunity to travel nationally and even worldwide to climb and compete alongside some of the best youth climbers in the nation. To sign up or for more information, email us.
These are events that take place monthly and are designed to support the young members of the climbing community. While it is only a drop-in day, this format provides a space for similarly aged youth to find friends while finding common ground doing something they enjoy.
